Amanda Lee, MSW, LCSWA

Picture
Amanda is a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate specializing in working with children, teens, and parents, helping with issues such as self-esteem, anxiety, depression, trauma, and developmental disabilities.
Skilled in working with young children, adolescents, teenagers, young adults, adults, parents and families in order to create and maintain a healthy foundation for all involved in therapy, Amanda meets people where they are. She consistently builds strong therapeutic alliances with her clients. She will walk alongside you to help you achieve your own unique goals.

Amanda believes the most important part of therapy is the relationship that is established between the client and therapist; she understands the level of vulnerability and trust that this requires as she has been in therapy consistently over the past several years to help her work through her own presenting anxieties and life transitions. Through the utilization of unconditional positive regard, you are completely accepted by Amanda wherever you are in your life journey.

By working with Amanda, you should expect to feel validated, accepted, and heard while working through presenting and past difficulties. Her motto is: Come as you are!

Qualifications

Amanda earned her Masters degree in Social Work  with a specialization in advanced clinical interventions and adolescent development from Stony Brook University, located in Stony Brook, New York. She also earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Saint Joseph’s College, also located in her home state of New York.

Counseling Background

Amanda has been working in private practice as a clinician for several years on Long Island, New York. Through this practice, she has gained extensive experience working with young children, adolescents, teenagers, and young adults. She has also worked as an inpatient social worker at Pilgrim State Psychiatric Facility running group therapies for people with severe emotional disturbances. In graduate school, Amanda completed internships at Child Protective Services as a caseworker and at Farmingville Mental Health Clinic as a psychotherapist. She also has a passion for engaging in political activism and advocacy work for underprivileged groups.

Specialization

Amanda has a passion for working with children, adolescents, and teenagers. She has extensive experience and education in helping this population with trauma, anxiety, ADHD, depression, Autism/ASD, depression, impulsive behaviors, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, life transitions, anger management, family dysfunction, and self-esteem difficulties.

Personal Life

Amanda is a recent “transplant” to North Carolina from Long Island, New York, where she was born, raised, and has lived for her entire life. Amanda lives with her husband and their two rescue dogs, Macy and Cookie, in Apex, NC. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys yoga, cooking, playing Animal Crossing, and re-watching The Office for the 10000th time (which she can--and will--quote extensively!).

Family is a priority to Amanda, who maintains a close relationship with her parents and teenage brother. Amanda’s brother is the reason she pursued the field of counseling, as he had been diagnosed with ASD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and ADHD as a child. Amanda was inspired by her parents’ support of her younger brother and has been passionate about serving others ever since.

She is also passionate about coffee and planning her next Disney trip, which her husband promised to take her to at least once a year in their wedding vows--a promise that she has held him to for several years!
