Background |
Emily began her social work career as a Forensic Interviewer, providing developmentally and emotionally sensitive interviews to child survivors of sexual abuse, so that they may avoid court testimony in front of their abusers. Here, Emily fell in love with working with families, helping parents and children to heal from trauma. Both as a professional and as a volunteer, Emily has worked with child and adult survivors of child sexual abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence at local child advocacy centers and sexual trauma centers in the Carolinas. While studying at Boston University, Emily worked with teen and young adult mothers experiencing homelessness. After graduating from BU, Emily worked as an Individual Therapist in Florida at a substance abuse treatment center for the LGBTQ+ community. Here, Emily worked specifically with transgender and gender diverse people as they navigated early sobriety and living authentically in a world that imposes rigid gender norms. After moving to North Carolina, Emily provided group, individual, and family therapy for children and teens in inpatient psychiatric settings. Emily’s diverse experience has solidified her passion for helping her clients recognize their strengths, facilitate connection and understanding among families, and identify coping strategies for long-term healing.
