Jamia Davis, MSW, LCSWA

Picture
Jamia is a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate specializing in working with all people who have experienced trauma. She is dedicated to helping individuals seek healing, peace, and growth.
I am passionate about helping my clients learn to extend compassion to themselves. I employ an integrative approach; together we'll unpack the implications of childhood, generational, and societal trauma on your emotional well-being, self-concept, and attachment patterns. I want to help you start believing in your own abilities and I will walk with you to overcome life's difficulties.

Growing up as a child, I knew that my purpose and passion was to help people help themselves. As a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate, I am proud to have the knowledge and competency to empower and assist my clients in discovering their own purpose on the path of healing and growth.

By challenging my clients to humanize themselves, they learn to operate from their value systems and not their circumstances. I use a collaborative and holistic approach to therapy as the path to true healing isn’t linear. I incorporate a variety of treatment modalities to fit the unique experience of each individual. I pull heavily from systems theory and incorporate techniques from several modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing. Additionally, I am experienced in crisis intervention and in providing culturally sensitive therapy for intersectional communities.

Qualifications

Jamia Davis is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, provisionally licensed by the North Carolina Board of Social Work. Jamia obtained her undergraduate degree from Mars Hill University with a Bachelor’s in Social Work. Jamia then obtained her Master’s of Social Work graduate degree from Western Carolina University.

Counseling Background

Jamia has an extensive history working with at-risk adolescents and transitional age youth within a non-profit and therapeutic setting to explore the impact of both the School to Prison Pipeline and Cradle to Prison Pipeline on emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. During graduate school, Jamia completed both her practicum and internship at the Mission Child Safety clinic aiding children and families in navigating the impacts of sexual abuse and exploitation. Additionally, she has worked as a therapist at an integrative clinic that addresses eating disorders, substance use disorders, and other mental health disorders in adults and adolescents. Professional experiences include residential treatment, crisis intervention, parenting education, family therapy, and intensive community support .

Specialization

While Jamia’s specialty is navigating complex trauma and working with marginalized communities in treating and dismantling long-term impacts of systemic racism and oppression, she is dedicated to helping ALL motivated individuals seek healing and growth.

Personal Life

Jamia spends a majority of her time engaged with her two energetic and curious children, ages 10 and 6 years old. Living in Asheville, NC and growing up in Brevard, NC, she grew to appreciate the tranquility and peace provided by the outdoors. Jamia’s experience growing up in a small town with minimal diversity empowered her to challenge systems and increase awareness of the impact of racial trauma on one’s individual experience and sense of self.

Spending time with family and friends is where Jamia finds her peace. A good cookout, hike, or adventure trying various cultural cuisines is right up her alley. Traveling is also a favorite pastime of Jamia’s, but it’s a must that sun and clear water be involved! Throw in a good Netflix binge - Good Girls, Vampire Diaries, or She’s Gotta Have it - to ensure a complete day of relaxation!
