Counseling Intern

Between battling chronic pain and not finding enough support for youth or young adults dealing with various disorders and working with a plethora of children in various settings, Seriana realized her calling was in the field of counseling. In her free time, you can find Seriana thrifting, trying new foods, modeling, and traveling. Because she has experienced life through various lenses, Seriana enjoys laughing as much as possible, dancing like no one is around, and living life to the fullest with food somewhere in reach.

Qualifications

Seriana is currently in her final year of graduate school at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Prior to the master’s program through NC A&T, Seriana received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her minor in Anthropology from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. Seriana’s goal upon graduation is to pursue licensure and become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate.

​Background

For the past four years, Seriana has worked in a series of job roles pertaining to animals and children. While working with children and other customer service roles, Seriana was able to see the imperative need for counseling children and families. She has seen the benefits animals have on mental health and hopes to facilitate healing using animals when requested.

Specialization

Seriana’s passion is working with children to young adults, especially. While Seriana is still a counselor in training, her goals upon licensure are to specialize in play-based therapy, animal-assisted interventions, and assisting those with chronic pain or autoimmune disorders. Seriana has experienced autoimmune disorders and chronic pain personally, within her community, and indirectly from family members and wants to help other young people work through experiencing pain and medical trauma early in life. Additionally, Seriana has experience working with individuals with OCD through Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). 

Personal Life

Born in South Carolina, Seriana has been in North Carolina since 2019. Seriana has lived in multiple states inside the country and has also lived abroad. She is the oldest of 5 siblings and has a pet bearded dragon named Roscoe. Seriana loves animals, hosts an animal podcast, and spent a summer in Costa Rica researching howler monkeys.
