Therapy for Teachers & Educators
"Secondary traumatic stress is sort of the consequence of being a good teacher. If you care about your students, you're probably not going to avoid it."
- Jessica Lander, teacher
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the demands of your position? Are you leaving school feeling exhausted each day, on the verge of burning out? Banyan Tree Counseling was founded by a teacher, and many of our therapists are former educators, too. You are in the right place.
Teaching ranks among the most emotionally demanding professions. We know that teachers often prioritize caring for others while completely overlooking their own mental and emotional well-being. But neglecting your health only perpetuates stress. We are here to help you prioritize your well-being so you can continue making an impact without sacrificing yourself.

If you are feeling completely drained, you aren't just "tired"—you could be experiencing the effects of trauma or secondary traumatic stress, also known as compassion fatigue or vicarious trauma. Because you care deeply about your students, absorbing their daily struggles takes a heavy toll. Research consistently indicates that prioritizing your mental health directly and positively impacts your physical health, your family's well-being, your school's stability, and ultimately, student achievement.

We aim to ease your overwhelm by drawing directly on our therapists' backgrounds as former teachers. With firsthand expertise in educator challenges—like impossible deadlines, classroom management, and systemic pressures—we offer targeted emotional support and practical resources. Together, we can address grief, anxiety, and interpersonal issues, while fostering deep self-reflection and sustainable self-care through various therapeutic methods.

Because we value the incredible work you do, we are proud to offer our Clear Pricing Project for educators. If you are a North Carolina public school employee with the State Health Plan, you may be eligible for $0 therapy sessions. Please mention your employment status when booking so we can verify your benefits!
