Qualifications
Kenzie graduated from Meredith College in 2022 with a Bachelor of Social Work and continued her education at East Carolina University where she obtained her Master of Social Work in 2023. Since graduating, she has obtained specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Kenzie is licensed in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Background
Kenzie began her working experience in social work by supporting pregnant and parenting teenagers using the Parents as Teachers curriculum to help increase school readiness and provide education on positive parenting practices. From there, she transitioned into a case manager role which focused on helping unhoused and uninsured individuals obtain medical care and medication. Through working in these positions, Kenzie realized the joy she found from connecting with people on a individual level, and decided to pursue therapy as a way to form long term working relationships with clients.
After obtaining her MSW, Kenzie began providing therapy through a community mental health practice which provided the opportunity for her to gain a breadth of experience and knowledge from a wide variety of clients. After transitioning out of community mental health, Kenzie was able to take her generalist knowledge and begin focusing in and obtaining education on her areas of interest including EMDR, Play Therapy, Reproductive Mental Health, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Specialization
Through her experience in the social work field, Kenzie witnessed first hand the way trauma can impact all aspects of an individual's life. These experiences led to her obtaining training in EMDR therapy so she could better assist and empower individuals to process their trauma and regain control of their narrative. She uses a multidisciplinary approach that integrates person-centered care with evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy, and EMDR.
Personal Life
In her free time, Kenzie enjoys trying new coffee shops, watching documentaries, and reading books about faeries and dragons. Most of all, Kenzie enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Pepper and Daisy.
