she/her

Mackenzie takes a person-centered, strengths-based approach to counseling, creating a safe and welcoming space for clients to explore their experiences, build on their strengths, and work toward their personal goals. Mackenzie also incorporates play therapy and expressive arts to help clients express themselves in ways that feel natural and meaningful.

Qualifications

Mackenzie graduated from Elon University with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Early Childhood Development. Mackenzie received her MS in Counseling, with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (License #: A23510) in North Carolina. Mackenzie has extensive experience working with clients at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical and the Nicholas A. Vacc Counseling Clinic.

Background

Mackenzie creates a safe and welcoming environment for clients to explore their experiences, emotions, and thoughts in a way that fits their needs. Every client has their own unique experiences and goals for their wellness – Mackenzie works collaboratively with clients to support them as they navigate this process. Her counseling work is grounded in person-centered, strengths-based, and dialectical behavior therapy. She also enjoys using play therapy and expressive arts techniques with clients to help them tap into their creative side when words might not be enough.

Through her internship at Baptist hospital, she supported patients as they processed their injuries, how they got them, treatment options, being in the hospital, and all of the emotions that can come along with it. She found that simply being there to support, truly listen, and connect with her patients made such a difference – solidifying the power of the counseling relationship for her.

Specialization

Mackenzie specializes in working with children, adolescents, and adults with a range of presenting concerns such as stress, grief or loss, anxiety, and trauma. She believes that by building a strong relationship in the counseling space, clients can feel safe being their authentic selves, share their stories, and discover new sides of themselves. Mackenzie believes clients are the experts in their own lives and seeks to support them through empathy, understanding, and compassion as they work together.

Personal Life

When she is not counseling, Mackenzie is most likely curled up reading a good book, playing board games with her family, or re-watching Friends (her comfort TV show). Mackenzie also loves to bake – most recently, she has discovered a love for making sourdough bread and has been experimenting with new flavor combinations for her family and friends. Mackenzie enjoys traveling to new places, especially if there is a beach nearby!
