Josh believes that therapy is a place to facilitate healing and help clients access their inner resources and explore their preferred ways of being and relating in the world. We all bring different histories and experiences of pain, as well as strengths and hopes for ourselves and others dependent on biological and chosen family. Our identities also shape how we show up in various contexts (e.g. school, work, spiritual/faith organizations, etc) and impacts the therapeutic relationship, and I invite all aspects of you into the therapy space.
Josh approaches therapy from a collaborative, intersectional-feminist, and integrative perspective. People’s cultural identities (e.g. gender, race, sexuality) cannot be separated from experiences that may bring people into therapy. This makes therapy a unique endeavor to explore how people understand themselves within the context of their greater community.
Josh also takes a biopsychosocial-spiritual approach to understanding how people’s health impacts their relationships in and outside the therapy room. Josh utilizes modalities such as Socio-Emotional Relationship Therapy, Bowen Family Systems, EFT/Attachment, Narrative, and Brainspotting in their work with clients. By integrating these perspectives, Josh considers all realms of a person’s life into account when in therapy.
